Leasing Horses With Hemphill’s

If you are searching for the perfect horse or pony for lease, look no further than Hemphill’s Horses, Feed, & Saddlery for quality Maine horses.

Hemphill’s is more than your local go-to retailer for quality horses, we also offer a variety of beautiful, quality horses and ponies for lease that will be the perfect fit for you or your favorite rider.

Leasing horses can be a wonderful mutually beneficial arrangement for both the horse and the lessee. Leasing horses is quickly becoming popular for a variety of reasons. If you have a budding horse rider in the family, a lease horse provides a lesson horse that your rider can bond with and work with routinely, as opposed to changing lesson horses frequently. Our horses for lease enjoy the arrangements as well as they love to have a job and to have their own special people to shower them with love and affection.

Private Lease

Private leases must be approved by the business owner, in some cases, terms may be adjusted for different time frames. Reach out for 2024 summer or winter private lease options and pricing. In order to be approved for a private lease, Hemphill’s will require references, including vet and farrier references, and information of the home away from home for the leased horse. Once approved, the lessee claims full responsibility for maintaining care for our horse or pony to the same quality as a horse or pony they own.

Winter Lease

Our camp horses are available to approved homes only. See the four tiers of our winter lease program below:

Lease Only Camp Horse/Pony Leases – not available for purchase: $1500 Aug-May
Lease on $6500 and under sale/lease horses: $2000 Aug-May
Lease on $6500 – $10k sale/lease horses: $3000 Aug – May
Signature Collection & Lupine Leases: market rate lease price, please inquire.

The camp horses usually start coming back about mid-August and the lease term goes until the middle of May.  On some of the camp horses, there is also an option to purchase off the winter lease by November 15th, 75% of the lease price
applies to the purchase price on contract. but not all of them are available for sale. If your camp horse isn’t working out and you need to swap for a different one, there is a fee to swap. To be approved for a winter lease horse, we will need 3 non-family references who know how you care for your animals, a vet reference, farrier reference, boarding facility if applicable, and photos of where the animal will be staying. It is the lessee’s responsibility to care for our horse or pony as if it were your own.
