Leasing Horses With Hemphill’s
If you are searching for the perfect horse or pony for lease, look no further than Hemphill’s Horses, Feed, & Saddlery for quality Maine horses.
Hemphill’s is more than your local go-to retailer for quality horses, we also offer a variety of beautiful, quality horses and ponies for lease that will be the perfect fit for you or your favorite rider.
Leasing horses can be a wonderful mutually beneficial arrangement for both the horse and the lessee. Leasing horses is quickly becoming popular for a variety of reasons. If you have a budding horse rider in the family, a lease horse provides a lesson horse that your rider can bond with and work with routinely, as opposed to changing lesson horses frequently. Our horses for lease enjoy the arrangements as well as they love to have a job and to have their own special people to shower them with love and affection.
Private leases must be approved by the business owner, in some cases, terms may be adjusted for different time frames. Summer private leases start at $1500. Winter private lease options start at $750. In order to be approved for a private lease, Hemphill’s will require references, including vet and farrier references, and information of the home away from home for the leased horse. Once approved, the lessee claims full responsibility for maintaining care for our horse or pony to the same quality as a horse or pony they own.
Many of our solid citizen camp horses are available for a free winter lease to in-state residents at approved locations. Higher priced blue-ribbon camp horses are also often available for in-state winter lease, but a lease fee applies. Winter horse leasing for out-of-state residents starts at $750 for the term on a solid citizen, and $1500 for a blue ribbon horse. The camp horses usually start coming back about mid-August and the lease term goes until the middle of May. On some of the camp horses, there is also an option to purchase off the winter lease by November 15th, but not all of them are available for sale. If your camp horse isn’t working out and you need to swap for a different one, the cost is $100 per swap. To be approved for a winter lease horse, we will need 3 non-family references who know how you care for your animals, a vet reference, farrier reference, boarding facility if applicable, and photos of where the animal will be staying. It is the lessee’s responsibility to care for our horse or pony as if it were your own.
Hemphill’s also offers a limited number of private summer lease horses. Summer lease horses are available for approved locations to in-state residents and out-of-state residents. If a lessee wants to purchase a lease horse off of their private summer lease, the lease fees may not be applied towards the purchase price. If you feel the lease horse is not a good match and you need to swap, the cost is $100 per swap. To be approved for a summer lease horse, we will need 3 non-family references who know how you care for your animals, a vet reference, farrier reference, boarding facility if applicable, and photos of where the animal will be staying. It is the lessee’s responsibility to care for our animal as if it was their own.
